Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez have separated after 1 year of marriage, a source has confirmed to PEOPLE.
The couple, who got engaged in December 2020 and married in May 2021, have been “quietly and lovingly working on their friendship” since their separation, the source said.
“They’re still figuring things out, but they’re taking it slow,” the source added. “They’re both focused on their careers right now.”
Grande and Gomez first met in 2020 through mutual friends. They went public with their relationship in May 2020, and got engaged just 5 months later. Their wedding was a small, intimate ceremony in Grande’s Montecito home.
Grande has not publicly commented on the separation. Gomez has deleted his Instagram account.
The couple’s separation comes as a surprise to many fans, who had thought they were very happy together. However, the source said that the separation was “amicable” and that both Grande and Gomez are “still supportive of each other.”
It remains to be seen if Grande and Gomez will reconcile or file for divorce. However, for now, they are both focused on their careers and working on their friendship.
