Will Smith’s New Drama Series Emancipation to Release on Apple TV+ in 2023

Will Smith will star in and produce another show series called Freedom for Apple TV+ in 2023, The series is based on the true story of Peter a runaway slave on a federal farm in Louisiana during the nationwide conflict, Peter’s journey to Opportunity took him through the bogs of the Mississippi Delta where he was sought by Confederate fighters and bounty hunters.

Smith also owns Westbrook Inc, We’ll make a chain out of the flags, Antoine Fuqua who most recently directed Smith in the films I Am Legend and The Quest for Happiness will coordinate the series. Smith and Fuqua also serve as lead producers.

Liberation is the most recent in a progression of high profile projects that Smith has arranged for Apple TV+. Aside from Liberation Smith will also present a science fiction film titled Splendid 2 and a show series titled Bel-Air a reimagining of the iconic sitcom The New Ruler of Bel-Air.

Liberation is currently being developed on Apple TV+. Delivery date has not been announced.

Liberation is an important undertaking for Smith who has long been interested in recounting the story of slavery and the experiences of people of color in America, The series is also a great example of overcoming difficulties for Apple TV+ which is desperately chasing big names to make it a real-time feature.
