21 Teenagers Injured in Walkway Collapse at Texas Beach Park

On Thursday June 8, 2023, 21 teenagers were hurt when a walkway collapsed at Stahlman Park in Surfside Beach, Texas, The teens were visiting from Cypress, Tomball, and Spring Branch outside of Houston as part of a summer camp run by the Bayou City Fellowship, The collapse took place at approximately 1 p.m. local time.

Five teenagers were airlifted to a hospital in Houston, 16 others were treated locally, All of the teenagers were reported to have non-life threatening injuries, The reason behind the collapse is under investigation.

The walkway that collapsed was made of wood and was approximately 10 feet high, It was located near the beach and provided with access to a viewing platform, The walkway was not part of the summer camp’s amenities.

The city of Surfside Beach closed the area around the collapse for safety reasons, The investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.

The Bayou City Fellowship has released a statement saying they are “deeply saddened” by the incident and that their “thoughts and prayers are with the injured teenagers and their families,” The fellowship has also said that it is cooperating with the investigation.
