Lionel Messi has reportedly chosen to join Major League Soccer (MLS) Inter Miami over a mega deal in Saudi Arabia and a reunion with Barcelona.
The 34 year old Argentine superstar is out of contract at Paris Saint Germain (PSG) at the end of the season and is free to sign a pre contract agreement with either club.
Messi had been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia where he could reportedly have earned $300 million per year but he has instead opted to move to MLS.
Inter Miami are owned by David Beckham and have been keen on signing Messi for some time, The club has already signed several high profile players including former Juventus and Barcelona star Gonzalo Higuain.
Messi is expected to join Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, He will be the latest big name to join MLS which has seen a number of European stars move to the United States in recent years including David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi’s move to MLS is a major coup for the league and would help raise its profile around the world, It’s also a sign that Messi is still hungry to play at the highest level and isn’t ready to retire just yet.
Messi has won a record seven Ballon d’Or awards and has won 35 trophies with Barcelona including 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles, He is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.
