The Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul have allegedly discussed his future with the franchise, Paul has two years left on his four-year $120 million deal but only $15.8 million of that is guaranteed for 2023-24 and no money is guaranteed for 2024-25, If the Suns want to trade him any deal would have to be done at his current full $30 million rate.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski the Suns and Paul have had “amicable” discussions about his future but no decision has yet been made, Paul is reportedly open to staying in Phoenix but he also is considering other options.
The Suns are coming off a disappointing season in which they were swept by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the playoffs, Paul averaged 17.2 points 9.2 assists and 4.5 rebounds in the regular season but he was only 14-of-45 shooting (29.1%) from three-point range in the playoffs.
The Suns are facing a number of decisions this offseason including whether to return head coach Monty Williams and whether to make any changes to their roster, Pauls future will be one of the biggest storylines to watch this summer.
Here are some of the options the Suns have for Paul:
*Keep him: The Suns could keep Paul and try to build him around for another run at a championship, They have a young core of players in DeAndre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, and Cam Johnson and they could add another star in free agency or via a trade.
* Trade him: The Suns could trade Paul if they believe that he is no longer the best player for their team, They could get back assets they could use to build for the future or improve their team for the present.
* Waive him: The Suns could waive Paul if they’re unable to find a trade partner for him, This would permit them to save money and create cap space.
It remains to be seen what the Sons decide to do with Paul, However it is evident that his future with the franchise is uncertain.
