New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that more people were watching her game online than the 44-year-old governor had begun talking to voters about her position, citing Florida Gov. ,
DeSantis launched the campaign on the Twitter space with platform owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk and entrepreneur David Sachs. The launch was affected by technical problems. The live broadcast crashed several times and the audio cut out. Musk blamed the servers for being overwhelmed by the number of people trying to listen in.
NBC News’ Ben Collins tweeted Wednesday night, “David Sachs mocks Ron DeSantis’ Twitter space as largest group ‘online meetup’. There’s 100,000 people.”
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said, “When I played Among Us more people joined in.”
According to The Verge, more than 400,000 people watched Ms. Ocasio-Cortez and Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar play a game of Between Us on Twitch ahead of the 2020 election. It was one of the 20 most viewed streams on the platform at the time.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez was only mocking the failure of Mr. DeSantis’ disastrous launch.
Donald Trump Jr. echoed his father’s “low energy” comments about former Florida governor Jeb Bush during the 2016 campaign, saying “DeSantis is making JEB! Now see the higher energy”.
Memes began to be shared about the Twitter space mess, including an edited video of Mr Trump shoving Mr DeSantis to the floor.
Mr DeSantis was ridiculed for his voice, after the Twitter Spaces event went off at the end of the day due to technical problems.
Bobby Lewis tweeted, “Now that the place has been in the works long enough for DeSantis to keep coming off, we’re only seeing tweets about how annoying his voice is.”
DNC member Thomas Kennedy said: It includes DeSantis ranting about embarrassing technical difficulties and annoying nosebleeds about the most niche hyper-online right-wing issues that seem strange and alienating to the average voter.
Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo tweeted, “The initial spot peaked at over 600k, but the spot is locked at 139k”.
A second spot later hosted on Mr Sachs’ account reached more than 300,000 listeners, according to Twitter.
“BuzzFeed hit 820,000 concurrent viewers in 2016,” said Tom Gara.
MSNBC host Chris Hayes said: “I’m sorry, but this is an incredibly outrageous level of incompetence. Irreversible failure. Complete and utter. Full disclosure.”
Former Obama official and Pod Save America co-host Tommy Vettore tweeted Wednesday evening, “Conversing Twitter space with Elon at some point during the campaign is a good idea, however flawed. What a disaster it is to make a presidential presentation.
Right-wing account Catturd added: “I quit the space. It was so awful and boring I couldn’t take it anymore. I’m going to watch the paint dry so I can have a little more fun.”
Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida, a Trump supporter, simply wrote “sedative.”
