Three killed, lanes closed after crash on Highway 101 near Sunnyvale

Must read

Three people died in a multi-vehicle crash Monday morning on northbound Interstate 101 near Sunnyvale, a city just outside San Jose, according to multiple media outlets.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened just after 12:30 p.m. on Interstate 101 at Fair Oaks Boulevard.

All lanes on the 101 were closed in both directions between the Lawrence Expressway and Fair Oaks Avenue, and traffic control was established at 2:30 p.m. to divert traffic onto the Lawrence Expressway.

It is unclear when the lanes will reopen, the CHP told NBC Bay Area. “The morning commute will absolutely be affected.” CHP Sgt. Gil Ontiveros told the outlet.

Ontiveros told CBS News that a preliminary investigation suggested five or six vehicles were involved in the crash and occurred after the vehicles collided with the median strip.

This is a story in development and will be updated as more information becomes available.
