A 22-year-old man shot and killed his girlfriend early Wednesday after she had a recent abortion, according to an arrest warrant.
Around 7:40 in the morning. On May 10, police heard gunshots outside the church’s chicken coop on S. Walton Walker Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found 26-year-old Gabriela Gonzales dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
During their investigation, police determined that Gonzales had a fight with her boyfriend, Harold Thompson, prior to the shooting.
Nearby surveillance video captured Thompson attempting to strangle her before walking away with Gonzales. The order states that Gonzales shrugged at Thompson and they left.
As they continued to walk through the parking lot, Thompson pulled out a shotgun and shot Gonzales once in the head. The video shows Gonzales falling to the ground and Thompson firing “several more shots” at him before fleeing the scene.
Police said further investigation revealed that Gonzales had recently gone to Colorado for an abortion and had returned at night. He believed that Thompson was the father of the child and did not want Gonzales to have the procedure.
Thompson has since been arrested and charged with murder.
