Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) criticized CNN Wednesday night over its decision to hold a city hall with former President Trump.
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, “CNN should be ashamed of itself.” “He lost complete control of this ‘City Hall’ and once again manipulated it with false election information, a defense of January 6th, and public attacks on victims of sexual assault.” “It’s done. The audience is cheering him and laughing at the host.
Trump reiterated baseless claims that the 2020 election was “rigged”, implored those who descended on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 with “love in their hearts”, and called author E. Jean Carroll a “mongrel”. Wednesday at City Hall.
The former president’s comments came a day after a jury found he sexually assaulted Carroll in the 1990s and then defamed her by denying the allegations. Carroll accused Trump of raping her at the Bergdorf Goodman department store.
“That’s exactly the situation,” Ocasio-Cortez told CNN. “Everyone here saw exactly what was about to happen. Instead, they put victims of sexual abuse in danger to watch them. It was a choice about the election and the stage is about January 6th.
After watching it on MSNBC, the congressman said Trump’s attack on Carol was “a continuing demonstration” of the sacrifices of sexual abuse survivors who “challenge the authority by coming forward.”
Ocasio-Cortez said, “What we saw tonight was the result.” “They sacrifice anonymity and security, they sacrifice it all. Because an overwhelming amount of structures allow and continue to live in a society that allows these abuses.
“I think it was a very irresponsible decision,” she added at City Hall. “I don’t think I can do my job if I don’t say so.”
