A Republican known for introducing far-right legislation, including an anti-“grooming” bill banning children from participating in drag shows, resigned Monday after a panel found he had sex with a 19-year-old intern. Had illicit sex.
Slaton’s resignation came a day before the state legislature voted on whether to expel him from the House. On Saturday, the House General Investigations Committee released a 16-page report detailing Slaton’s “serious and egregious” misconduct and unanimously recommended his expulsion from the legislature.
“It was an honor to represent my friends, neighbors and the wonderful people and community of House District 2,” Slaton said in a statement Monday. “He overwhelmingly voted in both elections to send me to Congress as his representative, and I work every day to live up to his expectations. My decision today is to ensure that a new representative who will work hard for them lives up to their expectations.
